Basic Attention Token (BAT) & Brave Browser

Do you want to know what is Basic Attention Token (BAT) and what is its connection with Brave Web Browser?

I will try to explain both of this in this article.

Ads ads ads, ads are everywhere now on the internet. Whenever you view some video on youtube, you see ads dynamically inserted at a certain time interval. These ads are video ads. In addition to video ads, you can see banner ads that appear in the form of a layer overlapping on the video. These ads are very annoying, right?

To serve these ads, google keep tracking everything you do on the internet and extracts some valuable information on the basis of which some targeted ads are served to you. For example, if you search for Nike shoes on google or Amazon then after some time you will start viewing shoe ads everywhere, Ads on your Gmail account, YouTube videos you watch, etc.

Brave Browser

Brave is a web browser much similar to Chrome web browser. It looks and feels 99% the same as the Chrome web browser. This is because it’s based on the Chromium web browser. Brave web browser blocks ads and website trackers. So if you open a YouTube video on Brave, you will see that there are no ads coming during the video.

If you visit a website that has ads, you will see there are no ads. Ads blocking is not a new feature. You can install an ads blocker extension on chrome which will block most of the ads. But, I think, Brave does this much better than any extensions.

Basic Attention Token (BAT)

Brave also provides a way for users to send cryptocurrency contributions in the form of Basic Attention Tokens to websites and content creators along with the ability to keep the cryptocurrency they earned. The “Basic Attention Token” (BAT) is an open-sourcedecentralized ad exchange platform based on Ethereum.

Brave blocks the ads and serve its own ads in the form of push notification.

Nobody can serve ads on Brave. This job is reserved for our Brave Browser.

But users, now, have the option of click or not to click on push notifications. Push notification contains a link to the website, which is an ad for Brave.

There are also settings to control these ads. You can turn off or restrict the number of ads shown per hour.

There is no such option on any other browser. But if you choose not to turn off ads, you will get some revenue in the form of “Basic Attention Token” (BAT). What you can do with BAT? Well, you can convert BAT to Bitcoin or fiat currency Dollar, on a crypto-exchange. You can also send this to other users or donate to some website.
